American Eagle Silver Proof Coins Suspended Temporarily
The United States Mint has recently announced that production on their American Eagle Silver Proof Coins has been suspended temporarily due to a high demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. At this point, all existing supplies of silver bullion coin blanks have been set aside for the standard American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program as they have precedent over demand for the proof and uncirculated version of the silver bullion coins as required by Public Law.
The U.S. Mint will continue again with the American Eagle Silver Proof Program when adequate inventories of silver bullion blanks have aquired to meet investor demand for all expected American Eagle Silver Coin products.
Silver And Precious Metals Ready To Make A Run
For private investors, as well as financial institutions, precious metals continue to be a safe haven for smart investors in a turbulent financial market. A close examination of the past few months will explain the re-tracement of silver to it's current position. As the stock market bagan it's tumble due to the collapse of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, which triggered the bailout of AIG and the closing of the Lehman Brothers as well as some giant commercial banks around the country, investors were forced to sell off assets to cover their margin calls. Some of those sell-offs included silver positions. With the dumping of silver on the market, the price of silver dropped.
Now that the silver market has again stabilized, investors have an opportunity to get back in on the historically valuable asset, especially now that the stock market has seen a recent positive uptick. Some experts believe that silver bullion could gain postive results in the near future.
Investing In Silver Bullion Coins
Silver coins are one of the oldest forms of coinage. Silver has been used as a currency since ancient times, including the silver drachma used by the ancient Greeks. Many factors go into determining the value of silver coins, including condition, rarity, age, condition and scarcity.
Besides being coveted by collectors, silver bullion is popular among investors and has an international trading currency symbol of XAG under ISO 4217. Historically silver has been the most affordable precious metal available.
Since 1986, the United States Mint has produced one-dollar "Silver Eagles". Each Silver Eagle contains at least one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. Many times, silver will track the price of gold due to store of value demands, but may have a varying ratio. That ratio is often analyzed by bullion investors. Throughout most of the 19th century, that gold to silver ratio was fixed by law in Europe and the U.S. at 1:15.5, meaning that one troy ounce of gold would purchase 15.5 ounces of silver.
